The Daily in Daniel

I have been putting this study on hold for some time now but eventually I felt compelled to do a study on ‘’the daily” in Daniel, particularly chapter 8 verse 11

Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

I highly recommend anyone studying this topic to read this article as my comments here are very brief and miss many points.

I found this a very challenging study but I feel my Father is leading me past all the perilous twist and turns to stay on the straight and narrow pathway. I still need to study this topic further but I would like to first read Uriah Smiths book Daniel and the Revelation.

Some of the things I have learned on my search for truth are.

  1. After prayer what does the bible say to me when comparing scripture with scripture.
  2. What does the spirit of prophecy say after comparing all her writings on a topic and comparing it again with scripture.
  3. What do our early pioneers have to say
  4. If our early pioneers have differences of opinions how do they compare to my understanding of scripture and then how do they compare to E. G. White’s writings.
  5. What were the fruits of our pioneer’s stance on a topic? Did they move off the platform that was laid by scripture and the gift of prophecy given to the Advent movement?

Sometimes I almost feel like giving up. I was never studious but my love for our Father and Jesus my saviour has given me a thirst to dig for truth. My mind is preoccupied with little else.

Now getting back to this topic.

I was fascinated to learn that William Miller and our early Adventist believed that the daily sacrifice in Daniel 8:11 meant paganism. The word sacrifice was added to the text. The next thing I couldn’t get my head around was how did the papacy take away paganism until I searched the Hebrew meaning of taken away. To my amazement it means to exalt and lift up. Now let’s look at this text leaving out the translators added words and putting in our pioneers understanding along with the Hebrew to see if it makes sense.

Yea, he magnified even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily (paganism)was taken away (exalted and lifted up), and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

Now I understood. Pagan Rome with all her gods became lifted up, exalted and adopted by Papal Rome with a Christian flavour. When you realize that many of the pagan gods had three deities and that the Catholic Church claims the trinity is the central pillar to all her teachings the lights should really turn on in your head.

The sanctuary doctrine is what gives the SDA church her foundation. If you study the linked article at the beginning of this document you will see that some who abandoned our early pioneers understanding of the daily lost their way with the understanding of the heavenly sanctuary and also 1844 being the fulfilment of the 2300 day prophecy in Daniel. Without this the SDA church loses its identity.

Sadly our church today almost unanimously abandons the pioneer view of the daily and have also adopted the trinity doctrine. Look at Daniel 8:11 again. The two go hand in hand.
