A new revision of my study -The Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost - what the Bible teaches

Posted Feb 19, 2011 by Pauline Edwards in The Spirit of God Hits: 4,162

For those who have read my previous study on this topic – in this revision I have added a couple more texts , I have also reworded some of my comments to give more clarity to what I am saying. (The changes are marked with a *asterisk.)

Remember when studying the Bible that it is of no private interpretation, let the Bible explain itself and read all texts in context of chapter, book and whole Bible: -

*2 Pet 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1 Cor 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Isa 28 : 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Keep in mind that God does not contradict or confuse so what a word means in one verse it will mean the same in another.

1 Cor 14:33 God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

(For all references to the Spirit and Holy Ghost go to www.biblegateway.com and type in spirit - or contact me here for a CD.ROM copy of this document)

The majority of these references can be attributed directly to the Deity of Heaven or their characteristics; the remainder refer to humans or spirits of Satan and his angels.

The holy Spirit / Holy Spirit / holy spirit referring to the Deity of Heaven is used only 7 times.

My spirit referring to the Deity of Heaven is used 16 times.

Thy spirit referring to the Deity of Heaven is used 6 times.

His spirit referring to the Deity of Heaven is used 13 times.

His, My and Thy are all possessive pronouns meaning belonging to personally subsequently they belong to no one else:

His Mark 10:45 ‘to give his life a ransom’ and 1 John 4:13he hath given us of his Spirit.’

My Matthew 3:17 ‘This is my beloved Son,’ and Matthew 12:18 ‘I put my spirit upon him’

Thy Psalm 119:105 ‘Thy word is a lamp unto my feet’ and Psalm 143:10 ‘thou art my God: thy spirit is good’

In all these references His, My and Thy continue to have the same meaning and remain personal pronouns showing that they are God’s or Jesus’ personally - they belong to no one else. Hence the Spirit is mentioned 35 times as belonging personally to either God the Father or God the Son. (Websters Revised Unabridged 1913 edition Dictionary:)

Doesn’t the Bible teach that there is only One spirit involved in our Salvation?

1 Cor 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Eph 2:18 For through him Jesus we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Phil 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

So who or what is this Spirit?

Let us first look at who is God, the Father,

Jhn 4:24 God the Father is a Spirit: and they that worship him the Father must worship him the Father in spirit and in truth. (Jhn 4:23)

This clearly states that God the Father is a Spirit – no argument!

Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God the Father is one LORD:

1 Cor 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him the Father; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him Jesus.

Jhn 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the Father the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou the Father hast sent.

Isa 46:9-10 9Remember the former things of old: for I am God
