A PERSONAL TESTIMONY PART TWO

Greetings to all members of Godhead.com:

This is the second part of a personal testimony. The first part related how God worked His goodness in my life to lead me to repentance and how He led me to Seventh Day Adventism. The publishing of this testimony on Godhead.com has been a blessing to me. I have been given a new appreciation and subsequent thankfulness to God of how He has worked all through my life (mostly unawares to me in previous times) to draw me to Christ for the gift of salvation. As Mrs. White writes in part: “…the gracious influences which God has exerted upon the human soul throughout all the life.” ST, February 12, 1894 certainly became more apparent to me after the giving of this testimony.

Part one of my testimony concluded with how the Lord introduced me to some of His people who were Seventh Day Adventists. Over the course of Bible study with them, they introduced me to the writings of Ellen G. White as contained in the Spirit of Prophecy.

I was greatly blessed by our Father in heaven to be led thus. That is, before being introduced to the further light that God was restoring to His people to finish the Protestant Reformation through the writings of Mrs. White and the pioneers, I was first led to read the Bible and accept it as the voice of God to my soul. Then, when the writings of the Spirit of Prophecy were given to me, by God’s grace I could see that they were divinely inspired as they were in harmony with the Scriptures. I could see clearly by the Bible that the four S’s of Seventh Day Adventism – The second coming, the sanctuary in heaven, the Sabbath, and the state of the dead were indeed restored to God’s people. I could also see that the Sunday keeping Protestant churches were in darkness concerning these truths and many others. Seventh Day Adventists were raised up by God to finish His work indeed!

Unfortunately, I also soon saw that some of the truths that God had restored to our pioneers and thus to the church had been changed. These truths were no longer being given in their restored purity by the church in our day. The Seventh Day Adventist church had stepped off the platform of eternal truth. Thus, I did not become a baptized member of the church, though I still considered the writings of the Bible, Spirit of Prophecy, and the pioneers to be the voice of God to my soul as they are correctly harmonized.

It was some years before I was led to study the true relationship of the Father and His only begotten Son and the identity of the Holy Spirit. I was first given some pamphlets on the subject around the years 2000-2003 if I remember correctly. I read the tracts and accepted on a surface level that the doctrine of the trinity proclaimed by the church today had usurped the true understanding of the Godhead as originally restored to our pioneers. I did not yet realize the depth and seriousness of this change in our fundamental beliefs.

It was not until the year 2008 that the Lord really got my attention focused on the all important subject of the Godhead. While attending a home church for services one Sabbath, the subject of the trinity apostasy within the Seventh Day Adventist church came up in conversation with some of the members for the first time. I related what I knew of the affair. The meeting closed and I went home. And then all hell broke loose! I will reprint here a letter (in part) regarding the reaction and subsequent events that followed. I wrote to a brother who was already long established in this truth. The letter was written and sent to said brother in June 2008:

Dear brother _____:

Greetings with the hope that this letter finds you and family doing well and looking to the LORD. Recently, the LORD has brought to my atttention the doctrine of God for closer examination. The simple truth that God's Holy Spirit is part of His Divine Nature and not a third individual being (or trinity in its various forms) is liberating indeed. I would like to explain this truth briefly the following way: "Man was made in the image of God. I am a man. I have a physical body and a mind (or spirit). My spirit or mind is composed of my feelings, will, and intellect that all go together to make up my character. My physical body and spirit together make up my complete identity or human nature. Would it not be ridiculous to you if I said that my spirit is a complete and separate person apart from my physical body? Or that I am one being with two persons -- Russell the spirit and Russell the body? Yet people do this when it comes to the Holy Spirit of God. As we were made in God's image or likeness, so God is. God has a Mind or Spirit which is Holy. His mind is comprised of His feelings, will, and intellect just as ours is. Some of the differences that I see with God's Holy Spirit and my spirit is that His Spirit is Holy while mine is not as a result of sin. He is able to sit physically on the Throne of His Universe while being omnipresent by His Spirit. His Spirit is also Omnipotent and Omniscient.

Through the trinity doctrine, Satan attempts to hold sway over the minds of God's professed people. "Truth was unpopular in Christ's day. It is unpopular in our day. It has been unpopular ever since Satan first gave man a disrelish for it by presenting fables that lead to self-exaltation. Do we not today meet theories and doctrines that have no foundation in the word of God? Men cling as tenaciously to them as did the Jews to their traditions." DA 242. People who are thus raised in apostate Seventh Day Adventism (four generations removed from the original pioneers) swallow the trinity doctrine without being aware of the spiritual poison that they are imbibing. Truly, they become drunk with the wine of Babylon and cannot reason correctly as to God's identity.

A reception and proper understanding of the doctrine of God fully reveals the omega of deadly heresies within the SDA denominational church. Armed with this true teaching: "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual." 1 Corinthians 2:12-13. "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;" 2 Corinthians 10:4. The trinity doctrine in its various forms is a strong hold of Satan that is thus pulled down through a correct knowledge of God - hallelujah!!

It is impossible to compare the things of God correctly concerning the true doctrine of God with a trinitarian mindset. Confusion, confusion, confusion! I have recently met with this experience in attending a home church. In discussing the apostasy in the Seventh Day Adventist church, the subject of the trinity was mentioned as well as the truth that the Spirit of God is not a third individual being. Well! The reaction and subsequent uproar sadly revealed that almost all members were on the side of a trinitarian understanding. "For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you." 1 Corinthians 11:19. I am hearing that this reaction is taking place among Seventh Day Adventists wherever the true teaching is introduced. I cannot help but to think that this is a testing truth for the people of God for this time. From 3RH, page 481: "The time has come for the true light to shine amid moral darkness. The third angel's message has been sent forth to the world, warning men against receiving the mark of the beast or of his image in their foreheads or in their hands. To receive this mark means to come to the same decision as the beast has done, and to advocate the same ideas, in direct opposition to the word of God. Of all who receive this mark, God says, "The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb." To come to the same decisions and advocate the same ideas as the beast = the reception of the mark of the beast (which would include the doctrine of the trinity in its various forms)!

Then after this incident, I was led to study the further truth of Christ’s begotten Son-ship. Truly, the true understanding of the Godhead - who the Father is and His relationship with His only begotten Son as well as the identity of the Holy Spirit, is a vital part of the giving of the Three Angel’s Messages.
