Begotten Son Disfellowshipped in South Africa

Posted Jun 01, 2016 by Bester Snyman in Disfellowship Process Hits: 855

The Proceedings was against us, Bester and Nina (my wife) Snyman. No proceedings was filed against my son although the question was asked, in a prior visit at our home, by the local pastor, if my son(15) held the same views regarding the Trinity. I reminded him that my son had filed no variance with the Church and the Fundamental Beliefs, and my son being under my roof, that we will determine the way forward with him.

We were told that church disciplinary proceedings will be taken against us based on Matt 18. We had 2 meetings where the local pastor and an elder attended.

The proceedings was calm and orderly. Pastor Kim Rowe-Rowe (PR), an ordained minister, chaired the meeting, assisted by our local pastor, Chad White. 24 voting members attended, including us 2 (we were given opportunity to vote as well. As far as I can gather, an survey was done to determine who will be for or against our disfellowshipment).

Proceedings was stopped for prayer every 20 minutes.

PR gave historical background that we had dialogue in good spirit. He explained that Bester and Nina Snyman (BN) would have had hearing on 5 March. This was postponed as PR requested us to study 3 BRI documents to see if we would not change our opinions  over 3 months. We requested 2 months, which was granted. BN contacted Mid May and stated that they could not accept the documents as Biblical and the content was highly philosophical.

The Agenda was read that the Church Board recommended that we be removed from the church roll as members. Bester was given 15 minutes to explain their views, 20 minutes was granted.

In short, it was  explained that the Fundamental Principles (1872) was changed over time to Fundamental Beliefs (1931 and 1980). I read statements by Jerry Moon, George Knight and William Johnsson admitting so much that the Fundamentals were changed. I read some scriptures and SOP in support of God the Father, the Son of God and The Spirit of God, contrary to current Trinitarian beliefs. I closed off by reading and stressing the following:

“The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced.” — (Selected Messages Book 1, p. 204)

I reiterated that we should not be disfellowshipped as the SOP warned against it. I emphasized that we stood by the 1872 Fundamental Principles.

PR read some Bible quotes:

Ac 10:38, Dan 9 – PR posed a statement that Christ cannot be filled by Himself if He was the Holy Spirit.

Ac 19:1-5 Rebaptized after receiving new light (We did not quite catch the relevance, we never spoke about having new light but old forgotten light).

DA 530 – Jesus had life original, unborrowed and underived. Conclusion therefore Jesus always existed. Commented that some people do not read the whole Bible, only exclaims the most prominent features to suit their doctrine.

DA 671 (this portion was read)

The Spirit was to be given as a regenerating agent, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail. The power of evil had been strengthening for centuries, and the submission of men to this satanic captivity was amazing. Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power. It is the Spirit that makes effectual what has been wrought out by the world's Redeemer. It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given His Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress His own character upon His church.  {DA 671.2}

[somehow this portion was read but the bold part did not make anyone think or pause for a moment that Christ sent His Spirit, the Holy Spirit]

SpTA 37 (1897) (This reference not captured correctly) – Comment made the Pioneers were consuming Pork, smoking etc.

SpT B- 3 living persons and heavenly trio = trinity

Conclusion: that SDA and BN beliefs not same and where 2 do not agree, they cannot walk together.

We were offered ballot papers as well, we voted, had to create extra ballot papers, more people attended than anticipated

Outcome for disfellowship: 19 For , 5 against.
