More Value Than Many Sparrows: Luke 12:7 What A Blessing!

house_sparrowToday I was reading Genesis 22:1-18 and my throat went tight and tears began to fill in my eyes. Why? Because this event in Abraham’s life is very special to me for a many reasons, but the reasons that I want to briefly share with you today are important to me because they have been part and parcel of dramatic and life altering changes in my life.

All Emphasis Supplied

In early 2009 I was not walking with Christ Jesus when I was asked to watch a DVD called “Ham and The Rise Of Worthlessness” and after the viewing I was “stricken”! I use that word because it is a word that Ellen White uses to describe Saul’s state when he met his Saviour Christ Jesus face to face on the road near Damascus. It is still fresh in my mind because I have just posted a blog about that encounter and am still studying the details.

Yes I was “stricken” with guilt and knowledge of my worthlessness! I knew that I had just received a “message” from the Lord about my spiritual condition and sat in stunned silence for many minutes and then finally spoke to the person who had invited me to watch DVD and said “the Lord has just spoken to me and I must meet the speaker”. I had heard of him before but had never met him, but praise God that I have now and he has not only become my brother in Christ (I am back with The Lord) but a very, very dear friend. How does this relate to Genesis 22:1-18?

Well it so happens that the speaker on the DVD not only spoke to me about how I had gathered my “worthless” feelings and helped my to dispel those thoughts, but he spoke to me at length about the relationship between our Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son Christ Jesus, and although I had met this issue back in the ‘80’s and early ‘90’s and became a believer in the true God [The Father] and His Literal Son my Saviour Christ Jesus, there were many other aspects of this subject that were given to me by my friend in 2009 and since, which have been a real rich blessing to me.

The experience of Abraham offering his son of promise Isaac on Mt Moriah is a microcosm or representation of God, The Father, sacrificing His Own Son Christ Jesus for me on the same mountain many, many years later, so when I reflect on Gen. 22:1-18 and particularly verses 7-8 as I did today, I am blessed by my Heavenly Father in that I know and believe that He is a Real Father offering as propitiation for the world, His Real Son Christ Jesus as a willing sacrifice in AD 31.

“For God [The Father] so loved the world that He [The Father] gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16

“The gift of God [The Father] to man is beyond computation. Nothing was withheld. God [The Father] would not permit it to be said that He [The Father] could have done more, or revealed to humanity a greater measure of love. In the gift of Christ He gave all heaven”. {AUCR, June 1, 1900 par. 8}

The Highest [Christ Jesus], who was with the Father before the world was, submitted to humiliation that He might uplift humanity…. Through yielding to sin, man placed his will under the control of Satan. He became a helpless captive in the tempter's power. God [The Father] sent His Son into our world to break the power of Satan, and to emancipate the will of man. He sent Him to proclaim liberty to the captives, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free. By pouring the whole treasury of heaven into this world, by giving us in Christ all heaven, God [The Father] has purchased the will, the affections, the mind, the soul, of every human being. When man places himself under the control of God, the will becomes firm and strong to do right, the heart is cleansed from selfishness and filled with Christ-like love. The mind yields to the authority of the law of love, and every thought is brought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. The powers, hitherto "members of unrighteousness," and "servants of sin," are consecrated to the service of the God of love. {AUCR, June 1, 1900 par. 10}

That this redemption might be ours, God [The Father] withheld not even the sacrifice of Himself. He gave Himself in His Son. The Father suffered with Christ in all His humiliation and agony. He suffered as He saw the Son of His love despised and rejected by those whom He came to elevate, ennoble, and save. He saw Him hanging upon the cross, mocked and jeered by the passers-by, and He hid as it were His face from Him. He saw Christ bearing the sin of the world, and dying in the sinner's stead. The human heart knows the love of a parent for his child. We know what a mother's love will do and suffer for her beloved one. But never can the heart of man fathom the depths of God's self-sacrifice. {AUCR, June 1, 1900 par. 11}

No matter how often I think of the day I was “stricken” in 2009.

No matter how often I read Gen 22:1-18

No matter how often I read the quote from The Australasian Union Conference Record 1 June 1900 by Ellen White

I still get that Warm and Fuzzy feeling of how much my real Heavenly Father and His real and literal Son Christ Jesus have done for me and I KNOW I am not worthless and I KNOW I am accepted in the BELOVED SON (Eph 1:6) and I KNOW I am of more value than many sparrows (Luke 12:7)

What a blessing!!

Praise You Heavenly Father for the opportunity.
