"Ye shall be my sons and daughters"

We know, that in Jesus Christ we have been adopted as sons and daughters of God. But have you ever thought, what kind of adoption we have been brought into? Or what does it mean to be God's children, or His sons and daughters? Let's please consider few Bible verses:

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." (Rom. 8:14-17)

"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ." (Gal. 4:4-7)

We are told here, that God sent His Son to the Earth, that we might receive the adoption of sons. As we have been under the curse of the sin of Adam, we have lost God's sonship and daughtership. And from the time of the Fall of Man, we cannot call ourselves the sons of God by creation (as are the angels). Moreover, we could not receive back this sonship, we have been put in a hopeless situation of our sinful nature.

But God had a plan to redeem us. He sent His Son to make us His sons. In order to do this, God's only begotten Son must have taken upon Himself our sinful nature, that He might become also our brother.

Please dear brothers and sisters notice this. In Jesus Christ, two natures have been united: the nature of God and the nature of man. Jesus by being God is God's Son, but by being a man, He is our brother. He is God's Son and our brother in one person.

Does this mean, that we, as His brothers and sisters, have been taken to a new level of being the sons of God? A level of sonship, that we did not have before Adam and Eve's Fall into sin? Have we entered into a level of sonship, very similar to the literal sonship of Jesus Christ? Although we are only adopted as sons and daughters of God, I am being convinced, and I believe that by the Holy Spirit, that this adopted sonship is on the very same level, as is the literal sonship of Jesus Christ being God's Son! God the Father is like our literal Father, and we as humans, through His only begotten Son and the firstborn of mankind, are like His literal sons! Jesus Christ being the Son of God made us God's family! This is a level of sonship, that no other created intelligent being in the Universe, regardless if it be God's angels or humanlike sinless inhabitants of other worlds, has ever and will ever experience!

I thank the Father in Heaven, that He was willing to adopt the sinful mankind to be His sons and daughters on the similar, or maybe even the same level, as is His literal Son, His only begotten and the firstborn of mankind before God. This truth is making deeper such biblical statements as:

"And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (1 Cor. 6:18)

"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." (Rev. 21:7)

Have a blessing Sabbath brothers and sisters! Adrian Z.
