Come now let us reason together. We are challenged to be Bereans so test the spirits and search the Scriptures to see if these things are so. Study with a friend and pray for discernment because we are promised that wherever two or three are gathered in Jesus’ Name, He is there. May you be richly blessed as you study His Word.

"For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." - (Romans 7:22-25)

There’s a battle waging for control of our mind. Romans Chapter 8 verses 1-16 gives clues on gaining victory so that the right Spirit will be dwelling in you. Jesus promises that gift and says, “I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you.”

"We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." - (1st John 5:19-20, John 17:3, Galatians 4:6)

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." - (Romans 8:1)

"Let this mind (agreement, same mind, harmony) be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" - (Philippians 2:5)

"For the law of the Spirit of Life (2222) in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." - (Romans 8:2)

Life - Greek 2222: z??, vital spirit, the breath of life, refering to the principle of the life of the spirit and the soul, Z?? is the nobler word expressing the highest and best which Christ is. (Zodhiates Lexical Aids of the New Testament, Thayer’s Lexicon)

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life (2222): no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." - (John 14:6)

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life (2222); (For the Life (2222) was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and shew unto you that Eternal Life (2222), which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ." - (1 John 1:1-3)

"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the *Spirit." - (Romans 8:3-4)  *(see verse 2) “the Spirit of Life (2222) in Christ Jesus

"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Now I beseech you, brethren, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and there be no divisions among you; but ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind (agreement, harmony) and in the same judgment." - (1st Corinthians 1:9-10)

"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended but one thing, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded (in agreement, of the same mind, in harmony): and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded (disharmony, contrary, disagreement), God shall reveal even this unto you. For our conversation is in Heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:" - (Philippians 3:12. 14-15, 20)

"For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." - (Romans 8:5)

"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind (capacity for spiritual truth) and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate." - (Titus 1:15-16)

"For to be carnally minded (5427 + 4561) is death; but to be Spiritually minded (5427) is Life (2222) and peace. Because the carnal mind (5427 + 4561) is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." - (Romans 8:6-8)

Word Study:

Carnally Minded - Greek 5427 + 4561: phron?ma + sarx, what one has in mind, mental inclination or purpose, the thoughts and purposes + the sensuous nature of man, the animal nature with cravings which incite to sin, the flesh, denotes mere human nature, the earthly nature of man apart from divine influence therefore prone to sin and opposed to God, to be deprived, follow after the flesh; used of those who are on the search for persons with whom they can gratify their lust, weakness, frailty, mortality, to appear clothed in human nature which is subject to sin, suggestion of weakness as respects knowledge, whatever in the soul is weak, low, debased, tending to ungodliness and vice, a body given up to the control of the flesh, estranged from God, entire nature of man, sense and reason, without the Spirit of Christ, by gradually losing the Spirit and giving one’s self up to the control of the spirit of bondage. (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon of the New Testament)

Spiritually Minded - Greek 5427 + 4151: phron?ma + pneuma, what one has in mind, mental inclination or purpose, the thoughts and purposes + the power by which a human being feels, thinks, wills, decides, the vital principle by which the body is animated, the soul, the rational spirit, the Father is said to have poured out the fullness of His Spirit onto His Son, who pours it out on believers, the power of perceiving and grasping divine and eternal things, upon which the Spirit of God exerts its influence, the power of suppressing evil desires and practicing holiness, fortitude to undergo with patience all persecutions, losses and trials for Christ’s sake, such as belongs to the meek, the spiritual nature of Christ, a life giving spirit, the breath of life, of the wind, breath of nostrils or mouth, of all the higher Spiritual gifts and blessings, the divine nature of God, of Christ, since the same Spirit dwelt in both, the divine nature of Christ, souls moved by the Spirit of God, a soul wholly aroused by the Spirit of Christ and wholly intent on divine things, yet destitute of distinct self-consciousness, to be filled with the same Spirit as Christ and by the bond of that Spirit to be intimately united to Christ, so as to be united to one body filled with one Spirit. Says Martin Luther, “it is the house where Faith and God’s Word are at home.” (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon of the New Testament)

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." - (Romans 8:9)

"Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being His counsellor hath taught Him?" With whom took He counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and shewed to Him the way of understanding?" - (Isaiah 40:13 & 14)

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable His judgments, and His ways past finding out!  For who hath known the Mind of the Lord? or who hath been His counsellor?” - (Romans 11:33-34)

"For who hath known the Mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the Mind of Christ." - (1st Corinthians 2:16)

"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" - (1st Corinthians 3:16)

"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is Life (2222) because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies because of His Spirit (margin) that dwelleth in you." - (Romans 8:10-11)

"This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the *Gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call." - (Acts 2:32-33, 38-39)

*See our studies “The Gift” & "He Shall Baptize You With The Holy Ghost."

"Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the Glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of Life (2222). For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." - (Romans 6:4-7,14)

"And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by His own power. Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - (1st Corinthians 6:14-15, 19-20)

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh (body) I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me." - (Galatians 2:20)

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:" - (Colossians 1:27-28)

"Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh." - (Romans 8:12)

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." - (Galatians 5:25)

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him: For in that He died, He died unto sin once: but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." - (Romans 6:1-4, 10-11)

"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live (G2198 spiritual living).” -- (Romans 8:13)

"Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them." - (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." – (Romans 8:14)

"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the *Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." - (Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6) *(see again verse 2) “the Spirit of Life (2222) in Christ Jesus

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us." - (Romans 8:16-17, 34)

Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for He hath given you a Teacher of Righteousness (margin), and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first." - (Joel 2:23)

"If so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the Truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the Spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." - (Ephesians 4:21-24)

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." - (2nd Corinthians 7:1)

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the *communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. - (2nd Corinthians 13:5, 11, 14)
