But Wait... There Is a Dinner Party on the Battlefield After All!

Psalm 23:4,5  "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over."

There is a table prepared for us in the presence of our enemies - doesn't that sound like "a dinner party on a battle field"?

In a couple of my previous blogs, I had noticed that we are always looking for an easy life, relief from our trials; but this is not to be, we are to have war with our sinful nature and with the devil until the battle is all over.

But what is this table that is before us in the presence of our enemies?  Could this be the assurance of Christ's presence with us?  Perhaps the "table of shewbread", which was representing the presence of Christ, as the" bread of life" (John 6:48)?  We read that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we may fear no evil, for "thou art with me".

So we do have a "dinner party on the battlefield" after all.  But it is not what we thought - it is not an easy, comfortable life and relief from our trials.  But the dinner party we have is the assurance of the Presence of our Saviour fighting the battles with us on the battle field, giving us strength for the battle.  In the heat of the battle we may feast on "the bread of life" in the presence of our enemies, giving us a joy that our enemies may never know - the joy of His presence.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Proverbs 15:15: All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
