Marriage and the Great Controversy

At the heart of the great controversy was one all consuming question:

Yet the Son of God was exalted above him, as one in power and authority with the Father. He shared the Father's counsels, while Lucifer did not thus enter into the purposes of God. "Why," questioned this mighty angel, "should Christ have the supremacy? Why is He honored above Lucifer?" PP 36

Lucifer could not understand the reason why God exalted His Son to be equal with Himself and why he had to submit to this delegated authority. The rise of the rebellion of Satan put the role of the Son of God under the Spot Light. Why was He in the position and why was it so important. The loyal angels faithfully accepted the Father's command to worship His Son as equal with Himself, they trusted the Father implicitly and rested in His wisdom.Yet Lucifer and his followers were not content.

The exaltation of the Son of God as equal with the Father was represented as an injustice to Lucifer, who, it was claimed, was also entitled to reverence and honor. PP 37

There were some who looked with favor upon Lucifer's insinuations against the government of God. Although they had heretofore been in perfect harmony with the order which God had established, they were now discontented and unhappy because they could not penetrate His unsearchable counsels; they were dissatisfied with His purpose in exalting Christ. These stood ready to second Lucifer's demand for equal authority with the Son of God. PP 38

We know that Satan and his follows who demanded that Satan be made equal with the Son of God were expelled from Heaven. And then God pressed ahead with the plan to make the human race

?After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father and Son carried out their purpose, which was designed before the fall of Satan, to make man in their own image. They had wrought together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon it. And now God says to his Son, ?Let us make man in our image.?? 1SP 24

There is special importance to the fact that inspiration records that Gen 1:26 records the Father talking to His Son and that mankind would be made in their image in a special way.

Adam had themes for contemplation in the works of God in Eden, which was Heaven in miniature. RH Feb 24 1874

The creation of Eden was heaven in miniature. It was to be a lesson book for the universe on how Heaven is ordered and organized. The most notable part of the creation that was ?Heaven in miniature? was that which was made in God?s own image. Please note that this image is far more than character, it was a unique creation made in God?s image. Please note:

All heaven took a deep and joyful interest in the creation of the world and of man. Human beings were a new and distinct order. They were made "in the image of God," RH Feb 11, 1902

God created man a superior being; he alone is formed in the image of God. RH April 21 1885.

One of the central reasons why Adam and Eve were formed in the image of God was to reflect the unique relationship of the Father and Son in a way that would answer key questions concerning the role of the Son of God. Therefore we read.

1Co 11:7-10 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

The role of the woman as submissive to the man and yet equal to him and co-ruler of the garden of eden was heaven in miniture. She came forth from Adam in a similar fashion to Christ coming forth from the Father.

Realising that the marriage union plays a special role in responding to the charges of Satan against Christ adds meaning to why Satan so hates marriage and seeks to undermine and destroy it. He seeks to infect it with false democractic principles of power equality that destroy the true headship of a husband and seek to make the woman equal to man in the same manner as Lucifer wanted to be equal to the Father Isa 14:12-14.
