Mirror of Brass

Made Known by the Mirror - Presentation Notes

Preface

Those who rejected and opposed the light of the first angel's message, lost the light of the second, and could not be benefited by the power and glory which attended the message, "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh." Jesus turned from them with a frown; for they had slighted and rejected Him. EW 249

In the present context those who reject the Identity value system can’t be benefited by the Divine Pattern message. Thus in listening to present messages such persons will almost certainly reject the messages of the present hour. These messages become a shut door – a reflection of their own decision process on the previous messages.

Elihu states:

Job 37:18  Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass [mirror]?

Job 37:18  can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?

Deut 28:15  But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:  …

Deut 28:23  And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

Eze 22:18  Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.

1 Ki 14:25-27  And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:  (26)  And he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.  (27)  And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.

The Laver is made of Brass from the looking glasses of the women (churches)

Exo 38:8  And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses H4759 [Marah from H4758 Mareh or vision] of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Gen 46:2  And God spake unto Israel in the visions H4759 of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

God makes Himself Known through the Mirror – the looking glass – Marah

Num 12:6  And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, H4759 and will speak unto him in a dream.

Dan 10:5-9  Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:  (6)  His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, [flashing sword] and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.  (7)  And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; [H4759] but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.  (8)  Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.  Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep [death] on my face, and my face toward the ground.

God has created the sky as a mirror to reflect what is in our hearts.

1 Cor 13:12  For now we see through [dia] a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

The Divine Pattern has a mirror in it.

Heb 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person

Joh 10:15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father:

The knowledge that Christ has of the Father is a perfect mirror copy of what is in the Father Himself. The perfect copy of this knowledge makes the mirror between them transparent. There is nothing obscuring between. When the knowledge of God is a perfect copy or express image of God then the channel becomes a mirror of the source. When the knowledge of God is darkened then the spiritual image becomes a mirror between God and man and man sees himself when looking at God. The darkness in the mind creates an image of self.

When there is perfect knowledge then the glass is transparent gold. When lies are believed about God, the glass becomes like hardened brass in which one sees themselves thinking it is God.

Here is the mirror between us and Christ

Christ is sitting for His portrait in every disciple. Every one God has predestinated to be "conformed to the image of His Son." In every one Christ's long-suffering love, His holiness, meekness, mercy, and truth, are to be manifested to the world.--DA p. 827.

Why do we see into the glass darkly?

Rom 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened

When our hearts are darkened then we see into the glass darkly. Why are we blinded today? Because we read the books of Moses with a vail over our hearts. When this vail is removed we behold the glory of the Lord

Satan darkened the mirror surface with falsehood.

Christ came to save fallen man, and Satan with fiercest wrath met him on the field of conflict; for the enemy knew that when divine strength was added to human weakness, man was armed with power and intelligence, and could break away from the captivity in which he had bound him. Satan sought to intercept every ray of light [raybans!] from the throne of God. He sought to cast his shadow across the earth, that men might lose the true views of God's character, and that the knowledge of God might become extinct in the earth. He had caused truth of vital importance to be so mingled with error that it had lost its significance. The law of Jehovah was burdened with needless exactions and traditions, and God was represented as severe, exacting, revengeful, and arbitrary. He was pictured as one who could take pleasure in the sufferings of his creatures. The very attributes that belonged to the character of Satan, the evil one represented as belonging to the character of God. Jesus came to teach men of the Father, to correctly represent him before the fallen children of earth. ST Jan 20, 1890

Satan has cast his shadow athwart the pathway of every human being, in order that he may misrepresent God to the world. He has clothed the character of God with attributes that are satanic, and wholly at variance with the truth. He has pictured him as a being full of revenge, as a lawgiver whose law is beyond the power of man to keep, and he has implanted enmity in the heart of the sinner, so that man unregenerated is in rebellion against God. This is the impression that Satan has made upon the human mind. Those who present the law of God as a transcript of the divine character will blend with their teaching that which belongs with the subject, and will present the love of the Father and the Son. When this is done, the shadow of the evil one will be removed from the hearts of men, and the clear light of Christ's love, illuminating the understanding, will reveal the character of God as of one who is infinite in mercy. Sinners will behold Christ as one able and willing to cleanse from all sin. They will behold God not in his wrath, but in the sunshine of his love. His love will be seen as beyond all human love, and without a parallel.  {RH, February 10, 1891 par. 1}

The image of Daniel 2 shows the progression of darkness in our view of God. It goes from gold to iron mixed with clay thus it becomes as clear as mud.

The crowns of the saints will be made of the most pure gold – which is transparent

The crowns of the saints were of the most pure gold, decked with stars. Their faces shone with glory, for they were in the express image of Jesus. EW 54

The Street(s) or way of the City was pure gold – like transparent glass

"And I John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." "Her light was like unto a stone most  [592] precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; and had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel." "The twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. AA 591, 592

The tree of life is made of transparent gold. The fruit looked like gold mixed with silver

Here we saw the tree of life and the throne of God. Out of the throne came a pure river of water, and on either side of the river was the tree of life. On one side of the river was a trunk of a tree, and a trunk on the other side of the river, both of pure, transparent gold. At first I thought I saw two trees. I looked again, and saw that they were united at the top in one tree. So it was the tree of life on either side of the river of life. Its branches bowed to the place where we stood, and the fruit was glorious; it looked like gold mixed with silver. {CET 60.1}

What does this represent?

Pro 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver.

John 6:63  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Christ's sayings are pure gold without one particle of dross. CT 430

The transparency of the gold speaks to the pureness of the words of Christ.

The metal of brass is not transparent but is a glass darkly. Is this why the altar of sacrifice is made of brass?

Exo 27:1-2  And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.  (2)  And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.

The Laver was also made with Brass – the mirror that the women (churches) used to look upon themselves

Exo 38:8  And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses H4759 [Marah from H4758 Mareh or vision] of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

 The Brass in the Court suggests that we look upon these things through a dark glass and even a sense of appeasement to divine justice.

Purposes of infinite mercy were reaching their fulfillment, even through the disappointment of the disciples. While their hearts had been won by the divine grace and power of His teaching, who "spake as never man spake," yet intermingled with the pure gold of their love for Jesus, was the base alloy of worldly pride and selfish ambitions. Even in the Passover chamber, at that solemn hour when their Master was already entering the shadow of Gethsemane, there was "a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest." Luke 22:24. GC 348

Price per kg

Gold $50,000
Silver $720 – 70 times less
Brass $1.50-$2.50 360 times less
Iron 8-16 cents 20 times less.

The Brass of the altar is also connected to the brass serpent

Num 21:9  And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

The gospel could still be seen – although very darkly through the brass mirror.

Lev 26:17-19  And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.  (18)  And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.  (19)  And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

When Samson lost his strength he was bound with brass

Jdg 16:20-21  And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.  (21)  But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

Brass is a metallic alloy that is made of copper and zinc.

David could not wear Saul’s helmet of Brass

1Sa 17:38  And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

David could not fight in a Brass mindset.

Zedikiah had a Samson repeat

2 Kings 25:7  And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.

Isa 48:4  Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;

Jer 6:28  They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters

Eze 22:18  Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.

The darkness of Satan’s lies causes us to read the Old Testament wrongly. When we read the words God and LORD and connect them to death and destruction – the obscured mirror causes us to view God as a reflection of ourselves rather than us being a reflection of Him.

The things of the world, its vanities, its pleasures, its attractions, are like quicksilver, which is dark in itself, and you cannot see through it, but put it behind a plate of glass, and you make a mirror out of it. Just so, if you put the vanities of the world behind the heart, if you put the heart on the right side of those vanities, they make your heart a mirror of heaven; they enable you to reflect the glories of the celestial world, and the radiance of the face of the Redeemer, when you look towards him; the bright uncovered side of the mirror being toward the sun of righteousness, his image is reflected. But if you reverse the process, and put the things of the world before your heart, between your heart and heaven, then you can see nothing through them, and there is no reflection in them to any heavenly object or light; the mirror side being towards the earth reflects only the earth, and the side that ought to be towards heaven is as dark as midnight. - Sel. ARSH January 29, 1857, p. 99.16

Earthly Relationships described in terms of quality of metal

Great care should be taken by Christian youth in the formation of friendships and in the choice of companions. Take heed, lest what you now think to be pure gold turns out to be base metal. Worldly associations tend to place obstructions in the way of your service to God, and many souls are ruined by unhappy unions, either business or matrimonial, with those who can never elevate or ennoble.  {AH 44.3}

Isa 13:12 I will make a man more precious than fine [pure] gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

2 Cor 3:14-18  But their minds were blinded: [Saul’s helmet] for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail [covering] is done away in Christ.  (15)  But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.  (16)  Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.  (17)  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  (18)  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass [mirror] the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

God commands the light to shine in our darkened heart has placed light into the mirror in the face [the earthly life] of Jesus Christ.

2 Cor 4:6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Let those who feel inclined to make a high profession of holiness look into the mirror of God's law. As they see its far-reaching claims, and understand its work as a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, they will not boast of sinlessness. AA 562
