Rest on the Sabbath

Exodus 20:8-11: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
On the Sabbath we take a break from all our usual work that we do during the week. This is one of the reasons why I thank God for the Sabbath. Even though I want to continue working, I'm glad the Sabbath makes me stop, because my body needs the rest. Programming and other creative activities place a large tax on the body's resources; the Sabbath provides the break needed to recuperate from the week's work, renewing my energy which is needed for the next week.
If it weren't for the Sabbath, I would naturally work all seven days a week; an extremely bad thing for my body! It makes we wonder how people who don't keep any day of rest are able to survive; and when many "take a break" they damage their body further still. Even though it may be a challenge to pull myself away from my work for a day, I thank God for the Sabbath; without it, I'd be a much sicker person.
