Salmon Migration to the Source
Posted Dec 28, 2013 by George Kerr in General
When we consider the beauty of nature there are many lessons which call us to consider the source of this beauty. One of the most striking examples of how nature teaches us of the innate desire to return to the source of our origins is the Salmon fish. When a salmon hatches from an egg high in the mountains it begins its journey to the sea where it will mature and grow into a full grown fish. When the time is right the salmon will begin a migration to its place ofbirth. The following video shares just a small glimpse of the effort necessary for this to occur:

The Scripture teaches that there is a source of life which flows from the throne of YHWH and is distributed throughout the world. As the waters go forth they gain depth and breath.
Revelation 22:1 “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of YHWH and of the Lamb.”
As the salmon enters the river of its origin the current is strong against which it swims. Unlike the ocean with large currents the river is a totally different environment. I would like to propose to you that this current is a current of blessings flowing from our FATHER and HIS Son. If the current is blessings then what is the salmon’s response? I would like to propose for your consideration that it is Honor! Stepping out of spiritual thought let’s consider Newton’s laws of motion in the physical world: Newton's laws of motion are three physical laws that together laid the foundation for classical mechanics. They describe the relationship between a body and the forces acting upon it, and its motion in response to said forces. They have been expressed in several different ways over nearly three centuries, and can be summarized as follows:
- First law: When viewed in an inertial reference frame, an object either is at rest or moves at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force.
- Second law: The acceleration of a body is directly proportional to, and in the same direction as, the net force acting on the body, and inversely proportional to its mass. Thus, F = ma, where F is the net force acting on the object, “m” is the mass of the object and “a” is the acceleration of the object.
- Third law: When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to that of the first body.
The three laws of motion were first compiled by Isaac Newton in his Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), first published in 1687. Newton used them to explain and investigate the motion of many physical objects and systems. For example, in the third volume of the text, Newton showed that these laws of motion, combined with his law of universal gravitation, explained Kepler's laws of planetary motion. (Wikipedia)
If this law was strictly enforced in the life of the salmon then the salmon would never return to the source of its birth. There is placed within the heart of the salmon a drive to overcome every obstacle which it finds within its path to head back to the waters in which it was spawned. In Revelation chapter 3:21, 22 there are several calls to be an overcomer as outlined: “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit withme in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Yahushua is set forth as the example in these verses. As He overcame we are to overcome as well. How did He overcome? By honoring His FATHER! Yahushua’s heart sang with these words:
Psalms 40:8 “I delight to do thy will, O my Elohim: yea, thy law is within my heart.”
In addition to this are the words housed within the 10 commandments, right in the center, which is the call to honor our Father and our Mother that the days will be long upon the land which we are given. This call to honor is addressed to physical children for they have received the blessing of life from their father and mother and as we, born again believers, grow in unmerited favor we likewise honor the source of our life.
The experience of one famous king in regards to whom honor is to be given and the reason for it is outlined in the following verses of Daniel 4:34-37:
“And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.”
A second witness to the experience of Nebuchadnezzar is found in 1Peter 2:17 “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear Elohim. Honour the king.”
This is further emphasized in Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohim, and keep (guard) his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
On October 28, 2013 I was baptized in Talking Rock Creek in Talking Rock, Georgia. When I was in that flowing stream I was like a salmon in that from that point in time I was going to be swimming against a current of blessings flowing from the throne of Heaven above. My awareness of my FATHER’S provision and protection had come to my understanding and with joy I entered those waters. Not only was it my desire to return to the source of those spiritual blessings, but to be a blessing to those I come in contact with every day of my life. Today I am honored by you as you read these words, for you are taking valuable time to consider the course of your life. It is my prayer that these words will be of encouragement to your spiritual journey!
The Scripture says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of YHWH in the Messiah Yahushua concerning you.” When we come to an obstacle like the water fall in the video clip which the salmon faces, do we rise to the challenge by honoring the Creator of those obstacles or do we turn and head downstream? In 1 Corinthians 15:10 the following is stated, “But by the grace of YHWH I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of YHWH which was with me.” By acknowledging the source of who He was, the author of 1 Corinthians is able to move forward in the face of opposition. May this be our understanding as well.
Shalom.
