Spiritual Lessons from Running a 5km Race

Enjoyed RUNNING A 5K Race with my friends today! GREAT JOB TEAM

SUCCESS was in 1. Doing my absolute best 2. Not giving up 3. Setting my own personal 5km record time 4. Passing out Tracts for the Glory of God!

LESSONS THAT EXERCISE TEACHES ME:

  1. Perseverance/Determination/Discipline
  2. Mind over Matter/Principle over Feeling
  3. Peace amidst Pressure
  4. Bringing the Body into subjection and the importance of obedience to health laws.
  5. We can do so much more than we think we can.
  6. Knowing when to Listen to Body and Rest.
  7. Relationship and Functionality over performance and body image.

THE LAST MILE was one of the most difficult I have ever ran because I was giving this run everything I had! The whole time my chest was burning and I felt like giving up and walking… But I kept breathing, kept my focus, claimed Bible promises, and kept my mind on the finish line! I imagined the intense pressure the remnant people of God will have going through the times of trouble before Jesus comes and had courage that this running experience would help prepare me for that Trial. We will need to persevere and not give up through what feels like a living Hell, holding onto God’s love to give us strength and being fueled by a zeal for God’s Glory!

MAKING IT SPIRITUAL-People put so much effort into a race, how much more should the people of God put everything they have into the Gospel work! In heaven we will not regret any sacrifice we made for Christ and our fellow men!

"...Laying aside every weight, and the sin which doeth so easily ensnares us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us looking until Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the Joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)

"Brethren I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Phillipians 3:13,14)

DISCLAIMER - (I personally don’t think competition is the best, but rather co-operation! I did not race to compete. Certainly we don’t want exercise to be an Idol, and anything can be taken to excess especially in the name of sport and competition.)
