My Journey in Biblical Cosmology

Mat 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

These verses teach that for any worldview that one can hold with regards to any topic of study, all the Bible should be the basic guide and authoritative foundational book. This does not restrict Scripture application only to theological beliefs and discussion, but rather extends even to the domain of cosmology: the study of the origin and structure of the universe, encompassing the shape of our local home, the earth. I had not known that God, through His written word, must be the first point of consultation and had something to say with regards to this seemly insignificant topic until 22 September 2026, the day of Atonement this year when pastor Adrian Ebens presented on this matter.

I was born and raised in a Catholic home where the Bible was casually read at church, not to provide all answers to questions that one may have. At primary and secondary school, I was fascinated with the science subjects especially Physics, and I had a passion of art. God also placed in my heart the love of reading my own Bible at home at around 14. When I was 16, I first encountered a Bible illustration of the conception of the universe in an RSV Bible illustrated by artist Horace Knowles. The diagram never had a lasting impression on me, except to think that the ancient Eastern people must have been crazy to hold such a view of a stationary earth on pillars, and scientifically uneducated. Poor them. I ignorantly mocked the idea trusting my apparently intelligence in science, and shelved the Bible for the following ten years. Blessed be the Lord, for:

Act 17:30  And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Throughout high school, I honed my skills in Physics and Mathematics to a considerable level which allowed me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. All along, scientist sir Isaac Newton was my idol in terms of his perception of the laws guiding the revolving orbs (including this earth). It is as if all that he said was like an inspired statement to me. I especially loved him and Johannes Kepler, from when I encountered the current so-called Christian scientists like John Lennox and Stephen Meyer, who, despite claiming the Bible gives the absolute explanation of the reality of the universe, hold in highest regard these old scientists’ cosmological understanding. Around March this year, a documentary video was produced involving these leading scientists of today, entitled ‘The Story of Everything’. It deals with the origin of life in the universe, but obviously heavily based upon the current scientific view of cosmology. I have been searching for this documentary on the free streaming application, Youtube, to no avail until today. It is as if Heaven has been restraining me from feasting on this scientific, superficial explanation of the universe, before I could study it for myself first in the inspired writings of Bible prophets. I am sure that I held the unwitting view that ‘flat-earthers’ are weird, and never considered how I would one day end up believing, from the Bible alone, that the earth is flat and does not move:

1Ch 16:30  Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.

Psa 104:5  Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Come June 2026, at a group of Seventh-day Adventists that seek to study various topics that concern the present truth, I was presenting in a series of Sabbath all-nights on the relevance and blessings contained in keeping the Biblical feasts today. One elder encouraged me to be free to come up with any interesting topic from Scripture besides the feasts. Then he told me how one had actually come up with his views of the flat-earth, only to be rebutted by the group. Having been told that someone in this day and age of scientific enlightenment, I ridiculed in my mind, “How insignificant that topic is, why is there anyone to bring that up for study at all, what is the point?” Because of my idol worship of science at the temple where scientific men where the priests, I could not see any issue at all in believing this earth is a revolving, tilted globe, and the sun is fixed stationary. But does Scripture itself teach us that Joshua commanded the moving sun to stand still, and not the earth to rest awhile?

Joshua 10:12,13 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.  And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

I remember a story that my uncle told me of his early days as a young boy at school. When his teacher told him that this earth rotates and revolves, he immediately was afraid to go far away from home even to attend school, because he thought that upon coming back to his homestead, he would find no houses as they would have been moved or rotated out of their place, never again to be found.  Such worry is caused to a young mind because of taking what science teaches about cosmology, and spiritualizing or ignoring all that the Bible has to say. And science does have a mouthful to say, which grieves that heart of our loving Father in heaven. I believe that heaven was restraining me not to drink too deeply from the poisoned fountains during my undergraduate study at university, as we had to take up a course in Solar energy, which obviously has the fingerprint of heliocentric worship. I only tested the few of the notes and the calculations, and dropped the course, but not on grounds of what I understood then as true Biblical cosmology.

Hearing the yet unknown Biblical cosmology view from a presenter I look up to, you cannot help but been to take the matter seriously. As my head was spinning after watching the live two presentations, ‘The Gospel in creation, the sanctuary and the firmament’ and ‘Attack on the Cosmic Sanctuary and the Fall of Babylon’, I could not find rest or easy clarity. Then my interest was awakened to search for myself especially from Scripture. Beginning with the recommended documentary called Heliosorcery, and other related videos on Youtube, for the first time in my life I saw that there is a point here, perhaps the flat-earthers are not so foolish after all. They have something I did not have up to this point: the Word of God with regards to cosmology, and all I had was the words and formulae of secular scientists, and no “Thus says the Lord” my Father.  My idols of science began to melt, my trust in men’s theories waned. “Whose words do I trust, who gives me authentic information, who do I choose to listen to between the simple Bible statements, or the complex science equations that invalidate the literal meaning of Scripture?”

Joshua 24:15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Besides all the battles I had to fight in my mind about accepting this new position, I began to feel a sense of security from learning that the firmament is a solid opaque structure enclosing this flat earth and holding the waters above (Genesis 1:6):

Job 37:18  Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

I cannot explain the thrill in my heart caused by now realising the closeness of our God’s throne above the solid firmament:

Eze 1:26  And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

I will finally mention one more, most recent a priori experience in my quest of true Biblical cosmology. As I was watching the artistic illustrations from certain videos and thinking about the structure of the universe, there has been a voice at the back of my mind for a number of days now. It seemed to whisper, “You have once met this before, a long time ago.” I could not remember when and where exactly. Then on Sabbath 10 October, the conviction grew in my mind to go and rediscover that lost diagram. Alas, ten years ago in 2016, I had surely seen that diagram, but I had not then found the significance of it upon my world view.

A light bulb went on, that it must have been in an old, tattered and torn illustrated RSV Bible. Blessedly, I found the Bible on the top deck of the shelf at home without much effort, after a decade of not using that copy. While excited to regain the Bible, doubts came about if I would find the page itself, or if it was the correct book with the illustration. I embarked to search page by page from the New to the Old Testament during the afternoon hour of prayer, that Sabbath, hoping that God would somehow show me the diagram I had once despised, again. After flipping many pages, something caught my attention- the story of king Josiah’s restoration of the temple and when Hilkiah the high priest rediscovered the book of the law 10 years after Josiah began to reign.

Finally, I recovered it! 10 years after first encountering the Biblical cosmology illustration of an earth founded on literal pillars, today it makes sense. Remembering how I had seen it with mockery, I found myself without a word as my jaw dropped, and tears streaming down my eyes. The pride of my little knowledge in science was now rebuked. The thought in my mind had now been confirmed, “You have once seen this before, a long time ago.” I was just not ready to learn about it at 15, but now the time had come to relook into this, from Scripture.

Conclusively, I will mention only two lessons I got from my journey in learning about Biblical cosmology. The first is that God sees His genuine children who seek the truth, and is longsuffering to accommodate our wrong ideas until a time we become mature, possessing the capacity to fairly evaluate and appreciate the evidence of His light. The second is that it is not wise to jeer and reject information we meet for the first time, especially before we personally and prayerfully studying it, with the Bible as our sourcebook and safeguard.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
