This book was originally written to address the specific situation of the church community. This was a ground breaking document in understanding the everlasting gospel. It contains a response to George Bulter's presentation on the law in Galatians. The logic sequence of this document is vital to grasping the core issues in the 1888 conflict. The booklet takes effort to digest and grasp its central themes but the rewards are great. I highly recommend this book.

Adventist history is full of struggle and debate over the issue of when and where did the Old Covenant with all of its rites and ceremonies begin and end. Like all other Protestant churches from which they came, the Adventists long accepted the prevailing notion that all things old and Jewish came to an end at the death of Jesus. For all the other Protestants that meant the seventh day Sabbath as well. Not so, said the Adventists, newly convicted by the Fourth Commandment. The Moral Law is permanent; the Law of Moses was nailed to the cross. But what about tithe, intoxicating liquor, and unclean meats? Soon a growing list of Mosaic statutes were moved across the Ceremonial Divide. And then came 1888. The implications were undeniable. Something had to give. The battle lines were drawn, and the rest— well, the rest is History.

The Words that the Father spoke to His Son at His Baptism echo the Blessing He poured upon Him on the First Sabbath of Creation. Daily the Father delighted in His Son, and the Son rejoiced before Him. On the Sabbath the Father breathed upon His Son and the Son was refreshed in His Father’s love. This intimate connection between Father and Son was placed permanently in the Sabbath and each Sabbath the Father breathes out His refreshing rest upon His Son and all those who accept the Son.

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is one of the key Bible stories used by people to show how God destroys those who persistently refuse to submit to Him. The fire that comes from Heaven is understood to be God Himself pouring forth a fury of Fire to end the lives of those miserable sinners that were a burden to themselves and a wicked influence in the world.

For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act. Isa 28:21

What is this strange act that God does? Many say it is an uncharacteristic act of God that cleanses the Universe of sin. Is God ever not in His character?

Who is the God that you worship. Is He the author of life, love and freedom or is He a combinational author of life and death. Are God’s mercy and justice two opposing sides in His nature or is justice an expression of His mercy?

For over 120 years the Church of Christ has been search for her beloved after He knocked on the door between 1888 and 1895/96. The gift of the Spirit has been there all along in the heart opening to the Spirt that flows during the Sabbaths of the Lord. Jones expresses it so clearly and these four sermons takes you step by step from wretched worm to sealed saint.

Ponder it carefully. The minds of the Roman soldiers are controlled by Satan, yet the breath by which they live is the life that lights every man that comes into the world. The power of Christ in the souls of men is used by Satan to nail Him to the cross. Just stop and ponder that for a moment. The single image of a Roman solider with hammer held high and driving a spike into those precious hands of the Saviour holds the key to plagues of Egypt and all the power of destruction manifested on the earth.

The mystery of the cross explains all other mysteries. In the light that streams from Calvary the attributes of God which had filled us with fear and awe appear beautiful and attractive. Mercy, tenderness, and parental love are seen to blend with holiness, justice, and power. While we behold the majesty of His throne, high and lifted up, we see His character in its gracious manifestations, and comprehend, as never before, the significance of that endearing title, "Our Father." GC 652.1

An excellent little book explaining the central issues in the 1888 controversy within the Adventist Movement.

The subject of the covenants plays a central role in understanding righteousness by faith. When the covenants are understood as personal experiences texts like Rom 5:20 open up to a clearer understanding of how the law of God is indeed our school master to bring us to Christ.

Every thoughtful Christian needs to read and understand the contents of this book.

Do God’s holy angels really kill people? Does Christ truly speak the words “These people must die for now, go and execute them!” Did Jesus hide this part of the character of God when He came to this earth? Jesus never executed anyone while here. If executing people is part of His character then why did He not reveal this while here on earth?

The Adventist movement was built on the foundation of Revelation 14:12 as those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. From this foundation this booklet reveals the connection to an understanding of the righeousness of Christ that is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God.

Most Christians have firm ideas about the wrath and the judgments of God, about His visitations, His vengeance and His punishments. They believe, that they represent an active act of God who loses His patience at a certain point and punishes and eliminates the transgressors of His law by instructing His holy angels to hurt, torment and kill human beings and by using the forces of nature in a destructive manner so as to achieve His goal of destroying the apostate. But how do people come to this conclusion?

How do we reconcile the wholesale slaughter of nations by Israel with the sword against the words of Christ?

…for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

At a time when I was going through a deep personal crisis, I began to search specifically for quotes from Ellen G. White on God's love and care to comfort me. I collected them and over some time they became more and more.

A textual review and analysis of the key Pauline passage addressing feasts, new moons, and Sabbath days. One of the most hotly debated texts in the Christian world, it is claimed Exhibit A for prohibiting the gatherings of God’s people as found in the book of the law. But was the apostle who observed the appointed times himself also condemning them as a only legalistic bondage? Was Paul saying the Seventh day Sabbath is no longer relevant to Christians?
Modern commentaries have ignored critical aspects of Paul’s internal consistency. Showing Respect, however, does just that.

The Bible contains several instances of sentencing people to be stoned to death for their transgressions. Where did this practice come from? Did God introduce this idea to Moses or did it come from some other source. Is it possible that the judgments that fell upon Israel related to their ideas of judgment rather than from God Himself? Did the sin of the golden calf change anything in the relationship between God and Israel? Is it important to know? To him that hath ears let him hear.

 Thus the covenant from Sinai brought them to the covenant with Abraham. The first brought them to the second covenant. The old covenant brought them to the new covenant. The sacrificial system with its animal sacrifices and meat and drink offerings all point to the life giving grace of Jesus through His work on the cross and His mediation in heaven for us.

The question arises what is the significance of all the weights and measures of flour and oil and quantities of animals? If all these events simply point to the death of Jesus 2000 years ago then how can each of these animal and meat offerings vary at each religious gathering? What does this mean?

At what time should we keep the feasts? This question is asked regularly and it is a valid question. For those who believe in the foundations of the Adventist movement in 1844 the answer is quite simple. 

Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world.

What is it about the cross of Christ that has such power to change a proud sinful man into a humble, gentle and repentant one? In this small volume you are invited to mediate on the sufferings of Christ and consider that each action He has taken is to bring to an awareness of His great love which in turn will help you to see your great need. It is only in the revelation of such deep love as manifested in the cross of Christ that can create an awareness in man of his natural selfishness that will lead him to destruction. May you look upon the Saviour and find in Him one altogether lovely and that has given everything possible to save your soul.
