“Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name YAH, and rejoice before him. A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” – (Psalm 68:4-5)

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.” - (James 1:27, Psalm 82:3)

These scriptures have become very special to me since I've come to a better understanding of the truth of the Father and Son. Just recently discovered this beautiful song written and sung by Melissa Otto that exemplifies the Word. She shares her inspirition for the song on her website.

This song was inspired by Michael Chapman who had grown up with no one to call his father.

"My father decided not to be a part of my life before I was born. Throughout my childhood and into my teenage years there was a number of people in my life who assumed the role of a stepfather, however each of these was either addicted to drugs or alcohol and some of which were quite violent. At the age of 15, while visiting a friend and observing his relationship with his father as they worked on a motor bike together, I first saw what I did not have: someone to nurture me and teach me the ways of life. At the age of 20 I met my father for the first time. This proved to be a huge disappointment as he expressed his almost total lack of interest in my life and also a total lack of interest in remaining in contact with me in the future. This, combined with other contributing factors led me into a state of complete confusion about who I was. I practically felt that I had no identity. At this point my mind was directed to the bible verse in Psalm 68:5 that says that God is a “Father to the fatherless”. I had the overwhelming impression that God was trying to awaken me to the fact that He was there to fill the position left vacant by my earthly father. I embarked on a journey into the word of God, which led me to understanding that I am a child of the Most High God. He is my Father and He is moulding me into his image, something that my earthly father could never offer. He spends time teaching me everyday. He is the loving Father I never had".

Father of the fatherless
You kneel down to teach me
You’re my true Father
And I Your true child

It is You who called me out of my mother’s womb
Your ears are opened to my cry
Abba Father, You walk with me
Taking me all the way home
When I start to feel weary
You beckon me to that quiet moment with You

Now I know my identity
The child of the one who fashioned me
Who’s known me from the beginning
My everlasting Father
You pulled me out of my wandering
My hopeless searching
You broke through my blindness
Now I see
My everlasting Father

How precious are Your thoughts to me
How vast are the sum of them
If I were to count them
They would outnumber
The grains of sand

My Abba, my Father
You walk with me
Taking me all the way home
All the way home
When I start to feel weary
I am not alone
You’re with me all the way home
My Abba, my Father
