Psa 72:2-4  He shall judge thy people with righteousness, [H6664] and thy poor with judgment. [H4941] (3)  The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.  (4)  He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces [H1792 make contrite, crumble] the oppressor.

Isa 43:3  For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. 

God paid the price that the kidnapper demanded. That is what a ransom is. He allowed Egypt to have their choice and suffered through the plagues with them in order for Israel to go free.

In the opening of the great controversy, Satan had declared that the law of God could not be obeyed, that justice was inconsistent with mercy, and that, should the law be broken, it would be impossible for the sinner to be pardoned. Every sin must meet its punishment, urged Satan; and if God should remit [forgive, show mercy to] the punishment of sin, He would not be a God of truth and justice. Desire of Ages p. 761.4

That which Satan had instilled into the minds of the angels--a word here and a word there--opened the way for a long list of suppositions. In his artful way he drew expressions of doubt from them. Then, when he was interviewed, he accused those whom he had educated. He laid all the disaffection on the ones he had led. As one in holy office, he manifested an overbearing desire for justice, but it was a counterfeit of justice, which was entirely contrary to God's love and compassion and mercy.  {Review and Herald, September 7, 1897 par. 4}

The condemning power of Satan would lead him to institute a theory of justice inconsistent with mercy. He claims to be officiating as the voice and power of God, claims that his decisions are justice, are pure and without fault. Thus he takes his position on the judgment seat [throne] and declares that his counsels are infallible. Here his merciless justice comes in, a counterfeit of justice, abhorrent to God. Christ Triumphant p. 11.4

Law

Spiritual. Rom 7:14. Expression of love and life. It is a reflection of the character of God. Prov 13:14, Rom 13:8

Legal. Rom 2:1-3 Warning of impending doom for any that would transgress. Rom 7:10

Sin

Misapprehension of the character of God, a refusal to believe the truth about God and the consequent results. Hides the face of God. Isa 59:1,2

Code violation that must be punished. Eze 18:4

Atonement

Having the heart turned back to God through a knowledge of the truth about God.  2 Cor 5:19

Punishing the transgressor or a substitute ransom that the price might be met. Heb 9:22

Offering

Contrite heart. Ps 51:17; 34:18; Obedience Ps 40:6; Jer 7:22; 1 Sam 15:22 Praise Heb 13:15

A sacrificial payment.  Gen 3:12; Gen 22:10; 1 Kings 8:63

Mediator

One who knows and understands us, took our nature and revealed the Father completely to us. Heb 4:15; John 14:9. Sinner pleads for Spirit/character of God as merciful. God freely gives His Spirit in mercy

The highest value sacrifice for sin that can then plead those merits to offended God. Nature like Adam before the fall.

The Sabbath

A gift of God’s Spirit/character and this brings rest

A sign of allegiance to God – no true rest. Fear of God’s punishment of death prevents true love. 1 John 4:19

The 1844 Judgment and final atonement

Reveal the character of God as merciful – mercy and truth go before your face Ps 89:14 – making final atonement for the people by turning their hearts to be one with Him. The goodness of this revelation turns people to repentance Rom 2:4

Meaningless – atonement completed at the cross. No character perfection required. God will just change the character for believing in the sacrifice offered.  Conversely – constant fear you will fail and be punished.

Cleansing of the Sanctuary and sealing

By beholding the mercy and love of God we are humbled, repentant, changed and then character sealed perfectly before Second Coming 2 Cor 3:18; Rev 7:1; 14:1

God supernaturally changes the character at Second Coming. No character perfection takes place before Second Coming – or live in dread and fear of death.
