The beast from the bottomless pit is a combination of two metaphoric terms mentioned in the book of Revelation chapter 9, 11 and 17. For many Christians, on a surface level Revelation chapter 9 is a very frightening and unappealing chapter. One might ask, if the book of Revelation is supposed to be “the revelation of Jesus Christ” (Rev 1:1), then why in the world would it include such chapters. The answer to this is in the word “contrast”. The following study series harmonizes with my other “King of Glory Series” which considers the identity of and cosmic attack upon God’s Son. This series features the dark pictures of Revelation that are being played out today before our very eyes which makes the antithesis to this – “the Revelation of Christ” and His kingdom more attractive. The study features Revelation 17 and the astonishing re-emergence of the beast from the bottomless pit. The phrase “re-emergence” in the title was employed to indicate that this beast (power) and its characteristics, which will be specified, were witnessed in the not too distant past – and are resurfacing today - only on a monumental scale! This indicates things are about to wrap up soon! We will contrast Satan’s purposes with the glorious victory of the cross and the character of the Father and the Son in light of the developing Great Controversy.
