He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. Matthew 19:8; And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11.

Fearfulness is Idolatry

What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in your Lord.

Any fear of any thing outside the fear of God is evidence of idolatry, it is evidence of fearing something more than God. There is no fear in love but perfect love casts out fear. I have been subject to the fear of death all my life as it indicates in Heb 2:15

Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

You will have no other gods before me. This means that we will have no fear outside our reverence and love for our Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

How precious the law of God that convicts me - thou shalt have no other gods before me. It speaks directly to my inward fears. It searches me as a candle and exposes me to the light. I fall at the feet of my Saviour accepting the sentence of death for the idolatry of fear, the idolatry of self. Then I am convicted of His righteousness. I hold on to the belief of His mercy. I find grace in the eyes of the Lord. I believe in His forgiveness and I am free. No fear for my daily needs, no fear of my enemies and those who hate me, no fear of the future, no fear for my sins for they are all forgiven in the blood of Christ. What joy, what love what grace.
