What were the deeper consequences of taking the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden? How did it affect the identity of mankind and how does this affect us today?

When Satan convinced Adam and Eve that "You shall not surely die" their perception of God and themselves was completely changed. Humanity lost its true identity and lost its connection with God.

The resulting curse included a sense of worthlessness and a need to find value in achievement.

"This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". In these beautiful words of loving acceptance and blessing that the Father gives His Son in the baptism in the wilderness, we find the key to our true identity as sons and daughters of God.

The Glory of Children is their father. Prov 17:6. One of the most important roles of a father is to bless his children with words of blessing on behalf of the heavenly Father. The sense of value and worth for a child is most powerfully seeded from a father.

Like Esau sort the blessing of his father with tears when he had lost it, so many seek the blessing of their father, year after year, hoping for his approval and acceptance.

Nothing can more powerfully convey the love of God than the loving words of a father for his children.

When a child is deprived of the blessing of their father, the weeds of worthlessness soon begin to grow into the entangled vine of worthlessness that drives some to the conquest of world dominion.

The Ten Commandments are a beautiful gift from heaven. David stated that he meditated in them day and night. Why do many people see the law as a burden that was nailed to the cross?

This presentation shows how the law protects our identity and when understood correctly and vital for life.

The Bible encourages us to focus on the unseen spiritual matters of the heart rather than the seen things of temporal affairs. Our attitudes in relationships, dress, worship all reflect what our hearts are truly seeking.

I had the opportunity of having David Gates speak in one of the churches I was pastoring in 2006. In our contact I was able to provide him with the audio version of the book Identity Wars.

Part way through a sermon the following year, he provided a brief assessment of the book. I am grateful to Pr Gates that he discerned the heart of the message of that book.
